Amazon launches all-new, faster 4K Fire TV Stick and upgraded remote design

Key takeaways

• The new Fire TV Stick 4K is faster than the previous generation Fire TV Stick 4K Select, with smooth performance, Wi-Fi 6 support, and stunning 4K with rich colours, deep contrast and sharp details.
• The all-new Fire TV Remote combines a smarter, redesigned layout with intuitive control.

Amazon today announced Fire TV Stick 4K and an all-new Fire TV Remote  —the latest in a new generation of Fire TV hardware that started with Fire TV Stick HD earlier this year. Together, they deliver faster performance, a simplified setup, and a new, more intuitive remote design. These launches follow a momentous year for Fire TV—including the launch of a new Fire TV experience; and the launch of Alexa+ on Fire TV now in 11 countries, including Alexa+ Early Access for Australia.

What Fire TV Stick 4K brings to Fire TV's streaming media player lineup

Fire TV Stick 4K is Amazon’s latest 4K streaming device—the first Fire TV Stick to combine a slim, portable design with crisp 4K resolution in a single device. Like the Fire TV Stick HD launched earlier this year, Fire TV Stick 4K features Direct Power that lets customers power the device using a TV’s USB port with the included cable—no power adaptor needed. That means fewer cables and a setup that’s easy to tuck behind a TV or pack for travel.

Fire TV Stick 4K is also faster than the previous generation Fire TV Stick 4K Select, delivering smooth performance with Wi-Fi 6 support to keep you connected even when multiple devices share your network, and stunning 4K with rich colours, deep contrast and sharp details.

New software updates to get you to what you want to watch

At the start of this year, Amazon launched an all-new Fire TV experience that was designed to be cleaner, more organised, and faster for customers to navigate. The goal was to help customers more quickly and more easily find what they want to watch — and with Alexa+ Early Access built in, customers can use natural language to search across apps, get personalised recommendations, and discover entertainment hands-free. Early results show that customers are finding what to watch more often and more quickly with the new experience.

Inside the design of the new Fire TV Remote

Alongside Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon is introducing an all-new, upgraded Fire TV Remote design. This new upgrade was designed with more tactile controls so it would be easier to hold and navigate by feel—without having to even look down.

The asymmetric shape—a flat top and curved, weighted bottom—was designed to make it quicker and easier to tell which direction to hold it.

The home button—now has its own distinct metal surface, and other buttons on the remote are indented or distinctly shaped to make finding them intuitive by touch alone.

Previously only available on Amazon’s signature remote, the new Fire TV Remote has a customisable star button that you can set up so that it goes straight to your favourite app; or to turn on and off a setting like closed captioning or Dialogue Boost.

And like all current Fire TV remotes from Amazon, it also has integrated TV controls—so you can control your compatible TV, soundbar, and receiver with dedicated power, volume, and mute buttons. It pairs with all streaming media players launched from 2019 to today.

With the redesign, Amazon will also launch the new Fire TV Remote Plus early next year. Featuring distinctive aluminum housing and backlit buttons, Fire TV Remote Plus will replace Fire TV Remote Pro.

Fire TV Remote Plus will also come with a built-in Find My Remote feature—just say “Alexa, find my remote” and your remote will play a sound and lead you right to it. The feature works with any compatible Alexa device, the Alexa app, or the Remote Finder button in the Fire TV mobile app.
