The partnership will bring fast, reliable satellite internet to more than 300,000 eligible customers when the service launches in Australia from the middle of 2026.
Bridging the digital divide in Australia
Project Kuiper is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite broadband network designed to provide reliable, affordable internet access to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. This agreement represents a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide for Australians in these areas.
"We’ve designed Project Kuiper to be the most advanced satellite system ever built, and we’re combining that innovation with Amazon’s long track record of making everyday life better for customers,” said Rajeev Badyal, Vice President of Technology at Amazon's Project Kuiper. “We’re proud to be working with NBN to bring Kuiper to even more customers and communities across Australia and look forward to creating new opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people in rural and remote parts of the country.”
How Project Kuiper works

Project Kuiper's network combines a constellation of more than 3,200 satellites in low Earth orbit with next-generation customer terminals, ground gateways, and global networking and infrastructure. Unlike traditional geostationary satellites that orbit approximately 36,000 kilometers above Earth, Project Kuiper's satellites orbit much closer to our planet at just a few hundred kilometers. This proximity dramatically reduces latency—the time it takes for data to travel between a user and the internet—resulting in a faster online experience.
To date, Project Kuiper has successfully launched 78 satellites across three launches, with plans for 80+ additional rocket launches to complete the constellation. When fully deployed, this network will reach virtually any location on the planet, from arctic regions to the most remote parts of Australia.
Benefits for rural Australians
For Australians in regional, rural, and remote areas, Project Kuiper's service will enable full participation in the digital economy. These communities will enjoy improved access to remote work opportunities, distance education and online learning, telehealth services, streaming entertainment, and reliable communications with family and friends.
"Australia's vast geography presents unique connectivity challenges that traditional infrastructure often can't overcome," said Joe Lathan, Amazon Project Kuiper, Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand. "This partnership with NBN Co represents our commitment to solving these challenges through innovation and collaboration. Beyond just connecting devices, we're focused on the human impact - helping small businesses reach global markets, ensuring students have the same educational resources as their city counterparts, and keeping families connected during emergencies. We believe every Australian deserves world-class internet access, regardless of their postcode."
Commitment to global connectivity
This partnership with NBN Co exemplifies Project Kuiper's commitment to working with like-minded organizations that share Amazon's vision of improving internet access around the world. By leveraging NBN Co's established presence in Australia and Project Kuiper's advanced satellite technology, the collaboration aims to create new opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Australians who will benefit from fast, reliable broadband.
