Long-term investment in Australia drives faster customer orders
In 2024, Amazon invested more than $3.5 billion USD ($5 billion) in Australia, including infrastructure and compensation to our employees. This continued investment in getting packages from our logistics sites directly to customer doorsteps continues to transform and improve the many ways Amazon helps Australians to receive their orders faster. With delivery stations now located in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Gosford, Newcastle, Geelong and the Gold Coast, we are closer than ever to our customers, who reap the benefit of faster deliveries.
Delivery stations power the last mile of our order fulfilment process with packages shipped to these sites from Amazon fulfilment and sortation centres. Once at the delivery stations, packages are loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers. Our last mile operations are supported by Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) and the Delivery Associates (DAs) who work for them, Amazon Flex Delivery Partners (DPs) and third-party carriers.
In just seven years, the last mile network has created thousands of direct and indirect operational jobs in 12 locations around Australia and has provided many flexible earning opportunities with Amazon Flex. This massive investment has enabled us to offer enhanced delivery outcomes for customers, including re-attempted deliveries and weekend deliveries, and even more importantly faster deliveries.
This investment has enabled increasingly faster delivery to customers now offering Prime members Prime Free Same Day in Sydney and Perth, and Prime Free One Day in Melbourne, Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Gold Coast, Blue Mountains and Mornington Peninsula.
And we are continuing to invest in the last mile network with two new delivery stations due to open later this year, including a $7m site currently under construction in Ravenhall, Victoria, which will provide 200 jobs after it opens. And a second site in Western Sydney, due to open before Christmas this year.
New technology to transform deliveries in Australia by the end of 2025

We are making a huge investment in various technologies and automation solutions to transform the way we manage packages on their way to customers - to improve the way we work, deliver and operate in our delivery station network.

By the end of this year, we plan to have invested more than $30 million ($20M USD) in next-generation delivery station technology in Australia. This investment in several key innovations will create a more ergonomic work environment for our employees, enable faster delivery to customers and reduce operational costs. These innovations include the introduction of Tipper technology to automatically unload packages onto conveyor belts, significantly reducing the physical strain for employees, and Auto Divert to Aisle (ADTA) which presents packages to our employees at ergonomic heights.
These investments underscore Amazon’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance workplace safety and accessibility while maintaining our customer-centric approach to delivery services.
Our last mile delivery network supports self-starters and entrepreneurs
Amazon Flex and Amazon Delivery Service Partners are two very different programs, but both allow people from all walks of life to become their own boss by working within our delivery network.
Amazon Flex is an innovative delivery service, launched five years ago, that offers individuals the opportunity to be their own boss and earn extra money in their free time, using their own vehicles to deliver Amazon packages to customers. More information can be found here.
Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program launched last year to give aspiring entrepreneurs access to tools, resources and Amazon’s experience in logistics and enable them to establish and build their own successful delivery companies. DSPs maintain their own fleet of vehicles and operate day-to-day logistics, with access to a ready customer base on top of training, technology and services provided by Amazon. More information can be found here.
The expansion of our last mile delivery network in Australia with DSP has enabled us to continue speeding up deliveries for customers and revitalise local communities with permanent employment opportunities.
