The newly signed portfolio includes: one wind farm, three utility-scale solar and battery hybrids, four distributed solar-battery projects, and a new battery installation at the previously announced Mokoan Solar Farm. Together, these projects strengthen grid reliability while expanding carbon-free energy supply across New South Wales and Victoria.

This marks Amazon's largest renewable energy investment in Australia in a single year, supporting the company's goal of reaching net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040 as part of The Climate Pledge. According to BloombergNEF's latest data, Amazon was the largest corporate purchaser of carbon-free energy in Australia for 2025, and one of the leading purchasers worldwide

What makes this announcement significant is the focus on battery storage. Eight of the nine deals incorporate battery energy storage systems —Amazon's first solar-battery hybrid projects in Australia, and the first outside the United States.

Amazon Australia unveiled plans to invest more than $750M building Queensland’s first Amazon Robotics fulfilment centre in Logan, furthering its commitment to faster delivery for Queensland customers.

Supporting regional communities
Several projects demonstrate how renewable energy can coexist with existing land uses. The Muswellbrook solar farm sits on rehabilitated brownfield land, including former coal mining areas, contributing to environmental restoration. Others incorporate agricultural co-use, with livestock grazing between panels.

Amazon’s renewable energy projects in Australia
When companies like Amazon invest in new renewable energy projects, we’re not just helping to power our own operations; we're adding brand-new sources of carbon-free energy to the power grid that everyone uses—the same grid that powers homes, hospitals, and schools. Since 2020, Amazon has invested an estimated AU$2.8 billion in renewable energy projects across Australia. Once operational, these 20 renewable energy projects will provide almost 1GW (990MW) of new renewable energy capacity, enough to power the equivalent of more than half a million Australian households annually.

The Philadelphia Eagles star and Super Bowl champion is helping Amazon Australia reduce delivery packaging waste, and he's just getting started.

The nine new projects are located across New South Wales and Victoria.

New South Wales

  • Muswellbrook, solar farm with battery storage (OX2)
  • Forest Glen solar farm with battery storage (X-ELIO)
  • Stanbridge solar farm with battery storage (Anza)

Victoria:

  • Golden Plains 2 wind farm (TagEnergy)
  • Laceby solar farm with battery storage (Anza)
  • Indigo solar farm with battery storage (Anza)
  • Barnawartha solar farm with battery storage (Anza)
  • Mooroopna solar farm with battery storage (Anza)
  • Mokoan battery storage installation at the Amazon-enabled solar farm (European Energy)

Supporting data centre infrastructure
This latest investment complements Amazon's previously announced AU$20 billion investment to expand data centre infrastructure in Australia by 2029, strengthening Australia's cloud and AI capabilities. Announced alongside Prime Minister the Hon. Anthony Albanese in June 2025, the investment will deliver world-class infrastructure to power advanced AI and other technologies, enabling organisations across Australia to train, deploy, and scale innovation.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is also advancing water sustainability initiatives as part of its goal to be water positive by 2030, including treated wastewater solutions for data centre cooling.
