The holiday season is here, and at Amazon Australia we’re adding a special touch to our deliveries to make gift giving even more special. A selection of our iconic boxes will feature one of two ‘Australiana Christmas’ designs, making it easy for you to get crafty and create your own one-of-a-kind packaging, while also saving on unnecessary wrapping material. Simply decorate your box, repackage your gift and put it under the tree – the perfect way to add a personal touch to your gift!

The two ‘Australiana Christmas’ themed illustrations which are transforming our packaging into #morethanabox this holiday season were designed by Sydney-based illustrator, Beck Feiner. Her designs were inspired by native flora and fauna and the unique ways Australian’s celebrate the holidays – from koalas, echidnas and even a Christmas ibis, to shrimps on the barbie, backyard cricket and pavlova being carried away by ants (we’ve all been there!).

Our special edition holiday boxes also feature cut-out baubles on the internal box flaps – shrimp and snags on the barbie; an ibis in a stocking; a cheeky cockatoo in a bell; and cuddly koalas on a wreath - that customers can decorate, and hang on their Christmas tree as their very own personalised bauble.

Beck said she loved the idea of making it easy for our customers to be creative while encouraging them to think about reusing and recycling.

I was thrilled to be asked to develop some fun festive illustrations for Amazon’s #MoreThanABox initiative. I love creating art that focuses on honouring our environment and celebrating our diverse and unique culture in Australia. I’m very happy that these special edition boxes are encouraging Aussies to get creative, have some fun and ultimately to upcycle their Amazon boxes this festive season

If you don’t have one of our holiday boxes, don’t worry – it’s easy to create personalised wrapping by reusing and decorating other boxes or materials from around your home. And the four Christmas tree bauble illustrations are available to download too so there are plenty of ways to participate in the creative Christmas fun.

To make a good thing even better we have partnered with Greening Australia and will donate $5 everytime a customer shares their upcycled box or bauble creations on social media with the hashtag #MoreThanABox, which will help them towards their goal of planting half a billion trees by 2030. Terms and conditions apply. We’ve donated $10,000 to kick things off and we can’t wait to see your creations.

Make sure you’re using recyclable crafting items to turn your boxes into gift wrap. There’s a great range of options that you can use for decorating cardboard or paper that can still go in your yellow bin such as crayons, textas, pens, oil pastels and washi tape!

We want to bring smiles to our customers’ faces while encouraging them to think about reusing and recycling their packaging this holiday season. We hope our holiday box designs will encourage customers to get creative with the family as they give their boxes a second – and more colourful - life.
Craig Fuller, Director of Operations at Amazon Australia

We continue to take steps towards more sustainable operations, introducing new packaging innovations, minimising packaging and embracing recyclable materials as part of our efforts towards The Climate Pledge, a commitment to meet the Paris Agreement 10 years early and become net-zero carbon by 2040.

For example, did you know that Amazon boxes and tape are 100% recyclable and can be put in the yellow kerbside recycling bin? We also replaced our plastic air pillows with recyclable paper dunnage early this year to reduce our environmental impact.
