Amazon donated and delivered more than 54,000 emergency supplies to bushfire-impacted communities in Victoria in partnership with local nonprofits.

The supplies—including hygiene kits, women's care products, emergency power banks, water, and shelter products—help communities deal with devastating losses. The fires destroyed more than 250 homes, 900 structures and burned at least 410,000 hectares of land across the state, an area that is nearly twice the size of the Australian Capital Territory. In January evacuation orders and emergency alerts were in effect for several parts of Victoria, and a state of emergency order declared on 10 January, these essential items were critical for relief efforts.

Partnering with local organisations

Amazon worked closely with two key Victorian organisations to deliver critical support: St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria (Vinnies) and FoodBank Victoria.

Amazon's disaster relief supplies are pre-positioned across hubs in Victoria and New South Wales and are dispatched in coordination with Amazon's logistics network. When a disaster strikes, Amazon responds to requests for support from nonprofit partners, who know the local situation and needs.

“Thanks to the amazing support of Amazon, Foodbank have been able to help communities in Victoria affected by the recent bushfires through our frontline charity partners. We have also been able to get supplies to hundreds of front-line emergency responders attending to fires and supporting evacuations centres.”

Victorian bushfire and Queensland flood relief efforts
The Disaster Relief by Amazon (DRbA) team helps us coordinate relief efforts around the world.

“Amazon’s generous donations of toothbrushes, women’s care products, and activity packs for families, alongside cartons of hygiene kits and water have enabled us to provide those in need with essential resources during this devastating period. As one of our major disaster relief partners, we know we can always call on Amazon to support our Foodbanks all around the country,” said Kylea Tink, CEO Foodbank Australia.

“Thousands of Victorians had to evacuate their homes across Victoria due to the bushfires. At St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria, we will walk alongside the affected communities on their long road to recovery in the weeks and months ahead.”

“We reached out to our long term and valued corporate partners Amazon for support, and their disaster relief team leapt into action. In just a few days, Amazon had delivered hygiene kits, toothbrushes, clean up kits and power banks to the Vinnies Shop in Bendigo, where they are available to the individuals and families who had to evacuate, some who had lost their houses in the Harcourt fire,” said Michael Quinn, State President of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria.

Queensland flood response

Simultaneously, Amazon supported communities across Queensland affected by widespread flooding and Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji in January. Working through our established partnership with Foodbank Queensland and assisted by intel from Australian Red Cross, Amazon's pre-positioned supply points enabled rapid response to communities in need.

Rapid deployment through strategic supply points

In Clermont, where flooding affected low-lying areas and isolated the township, donations included cleaning kits, hygiene kits, water, and food hampers to support residents during clean-up efforts.

Partnership with Foodbank Queensland and Australian Red Cross ensures critical supplies are ready to access and aims to distribute within 72 hours across regional Queensland.

In Rockhampton, local activations delivered hygiene kits, clean-up kits, and food hampers within hours of request, demonstrating the value of pre-positioned supplies for rapid community response.

In Townsville and surrounding areas, supplies were dispatched to address extreme mould issues in homes and support people who lost housing.

In Far North Queensland, the Atherton supply point was activated to deliver essential items including power packs, insect repellent, and clean-up supplies to isolated communities.

'We are grateful to Amazon for their sustained partnership and generous practical support, donating essentials to be available quickly in times of disaster, when Queenslanders need help most,' said Jess Watkinson Foodbank Queensland CEO.

Amazon's commitment to disaster relief
