Amazon was incredibly excited to be involved with the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and to support the inspiring men and women who took part in this fantastic event. As a sponsor and official partner of the Games for the second time, we’re dedicated to seeing former military personnel living the most fulfilling post-military lives possible.

Sport can have a remarkable effect on the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, which is why the Invictus Games are so important. Launched by HRH Prince Harry in 2014, the inaugural event was held in London, with more than 400 competitors from 13 nations.

A second Games was held in Florida in 2016, followed by a third in Toronto in 2017. Now, the Games are coming to Sydney, where more than 500 competitors from 18 nations will gather to compete in 11 adaptive sports from October 20 to October 27. These events will be held across Greater Sydney, including Sydney Olympic Park and on and around our beautiful harbour.

The Games represent a cause that’s very close to our hearts at Amazon. We’re an employer of choice for veterans and military spouses in Australia and throughout the world. The commitment to hire Veterans comes from the very top of Amazon.

We actively seek leaders who can invent, think big, have a bias for action and deliver results on behalf of our customers. These principles look very familiar to men and women who have served their country in the armed forces, and we find that their experience leading people is invaluable in our fast-paced work environment.

On October 26, we also participated in the WYWM National Career Expo, which is organised in support of the 2018 Games by veteran training and employment group WithYouWithMe (WYWM).

Veteran or military spouses looking for a new career came and met the recruitment team at the WYWM National Career Expo, which was free to attend for veterans and their family and friends.

Amazon recruiters and hiring managers from Operations, AWS, and other Australian-based teams attended the Games and the WYWM National Career Expo. The team promoted not only the opportunities within Amazon in Australia, but also the global availability of roles in the U.S., the UK, and other European countries as we celebrate the spirit of Invictus.
