Siraj has worked at the Moorebank Fulfillment Centre (FC) ever since Covid’s impact meant he was stood down from a role in the aviation sector– and he couldn’t be happier with how things have turned out.
“I’m a forklift driver at the ship dock, so I load and unload trucks,” he explains.
“It’s a stand-up vehicle, and I always say it’s a bit like playing a game, because it’s using your hands, using a joystick. You need that coordination.”
One of the things Siraj enjoys most about working at the Moorebank FC is the sense of community and camaraderie that’s developed within the teams.
“With ship dock, it's very much a team-orientated area, where we help each other out, we’re making jokes, we’re laughing, we're having a good time really,” he says.
“You're enjoying everybody's company.”
With the festive season, the FC gets busier than ever – but Siraj just takes it in stride.
“The job is fast paced, and the flexible hours work for my young family” said Siraj.
Tell us a bit about your home and life outside of work?
“At our house it’s me, my wife and my daughter Skyler, and also my mother-in-law and my brother-in-law. I really enjoy being active and being outside, so on my days off I love to go hiking and kayaking.”
Will you be spending time with your family and friends this festive season?
“We love celebrating Christmas so, generally I have family over - my mum,
mother-in-law, my brother-in-law, my sister, my other brother-in-law. We cook a turkey and basically graze the food all day.”
Now that travel restrictions are easing is there anywhere you’d love to go?
“Yeah, for sure, my wife’s Indonesian so I want to go back to Indonesia to visit her family. As well as go to India – my family over there haven't met my daughter Skyler yet.”
