Amazon Australia has unveiled its purpose-built fulfilment centre (FC) in Western Sydney's Horsley Park, marking a significant milestone in the company's continued investment in the region. Wayne Angus, Director of Operations, Amazon Australia, was joined by Fairfield City Council Mayor Frank Carbone and Councillor Kevin Lam to cut the ribbon and officially open the new facility.

The state-of-the-art fulfilment centre spans approximately 80,000 square metres—around four and a half times the size of the Sydney Opera House. It has the capacity to hold more than 10 million items sold on Amazon.com.au, including everyday essentials, electronics, beauty products, books, toys, and homeware.

Once fully operational, the facility will offer more than 1,000 local jobs, with a diverse range of opportunities in a high-tech, industry-leading workplace. Roles will range from entry-level positions with on-the-job training and certification programs to skilled positions in operations, HR, engineering, and workplace health and safety. Benefits for permanent employees include subsidised health insurance for the entire family, free life insurance, up to 20 weeks of parental leave pay, and free Amazon Prime membership.

"We are proud to continue investing in our Western Sydney operations with the unveiling of this new purpose-built fulfilment centre," said Angus. "This $400 million investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to the region and to delivering a world-class experience for Australian customers. As demand continues to grow, we are focused on improving selection and delivery speed, whilst remaining committed to supporting the communities where we operate."

Expanded Prime Free Same-Day delivery, including overnight delivery, is rolling out across the country with Perth and Brisbane, joining Sydney and Melbourne in receiving the fastest delivery speeds in Australia.

Mayor Frank Carbone, who attended the opening, said, "It's exciting to see Amazon's $400 million investment in Horsley Park, creating new opportunities for businesses to distribute their products and reach customers across Australia and around the world. This facility represents an incredible investment in technology and capability, but it's the people behind the scenes, from engineers to transport workers, who make it all happen. Congratulations to the entire team and thank you to Amazon for choosing Horsley Park. This is a fantastic boost for our local economy, residents and small businesses."

The arrival of this Western Sydney fulfilment centre will also benefit NSW's small and medium-sized businesses that use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA). The expanded capacity will enable Australian sellers with smaller items to more seamlessly service customers around the country, further strengthening Amazon's commitment to supporting the thousands of Australian businesses that sell in its store.

The fulfilment centre is equipped with advanced technology to assist Amazon's team as they pick and pack items for shoppers on Amazon.com.au, contributing to the company's efforts to deliver a smarter, faster, and more consistent experience for customers in Sydney and around Australia. The facility also features sustainable design elements, including state-of-the-art inbound and outbound sortation systems, a solar array installed on the roof, rapid rollers at all dock doors, and insulation to maintain internal temperatures and reduce energy consumption. The site also includes motion-sensor lighting, further contributing to Amazon's energy efficiency efforts.

Amazon Australia now has four operating fulfilment centres in New South Wales and five delivery stations.
