The coffee king from Sydney quit his banking job to pursue a dream of following in his grandfather’s footsteps and starting his own coffee business.

“My family owned coffee farms in Southern India and I remember having great fun with the pickers when we’d visit my grandpa,” Anee says.

“That’s what inspired me to start my own business which I was able to do after taking a redundancy. I bought a warehouse in Seven Hills and imported a roaster from Turkey and started Beancraft.”

Then Covid happened.

“It’s been a long journey and Covid almost wrecked everything,” Anee says, explaining that he started to look for a side hustle to enable him to keep his staff employed during the pandemic.

I couldn’t walk away from the business to work in a full time job, and I’d read an article about Amazon Flex. I needed work that would give me flexibility to also work on my business – and Amazon Flex was perfect

It helped that Anee had a coffee van, which was the perfect vehicle for delivering packages, and even now the business is growing in an improved post-pandemic world, he has no intention of giving up Amazon Flex. On average he picks up two to three delivery blocks a week, and delivers Amazon packages to customers all over Sydney.

“I don’t know what the future holds,” explains Anee, an engineering graduate and former banking risk management specialist, who says he would recommend the side hustle to anyone looking to make some extra cash.

Even if you have a day job, you can do it on weekends or at night. Even if you didn’t need the income, you would only need to work one or two delivery blocks a week for six months to put towards a family holiday

Anee says the role comes with the added benefit of providing him with quiet time to himself while he’s driving. Another perk the family man from Sydney’s Hills District says is that he uses his side hustle as exercise and it has improved his fitness.

“I didn’t have time for fitness before Amazon, and found myself spending much of the day sitting in a chair in an office, so I made this also work for my fitness,” he says, adding that it’s also allowed him to discover suburbs all over Sydney.

Anee will be one of the Amazon Flex delivery partners helping to deliver to Prime members this Prime Day. Prime Day is Amazon’s massive shopping event giving Prime members access to huge savings from 12th July. This year, Prime Day will offer Australian Prime members epic savings with more deals than ever before across more than one hundred thousand products from both big brands and small local businesses.
